| There are many things that can and will keep you from reaching your
destiny, your dreams, and your goals. I will try to expand on these three fears
and show you ways to examine your own life, so that you may make life
changing decisions to your everyday actions making you a winner, a dream
maker, and a history maker. As humans we all have the fear of fear itself.
Fear drives us to do things we normally would not do. Fear keeps us from
things we want, things we could have, and things we deserve. How much time does
the average person spend doing things out of fear, keeping them from
pursuing their destiny. How much
time is wasted waxing and re-waxing the car? I'm not saying that waxing the
car is a waste of time, but when you spend hours upon hours waxing the car,
coat after coat with hand rubbed carnauba wax, you got to ask yourself if
this is really necessary, what are my motives, and could I be using my time
more wisely? Why do we
do that? Why do we spend that much time on our vehicles, it's because we
want to look good. Look good in that shinny vehicle without the fear of
having someone say, man that guy doesn't take very good care of his car. It's like the fear of someone coming over to your home and
thinking you are a bad house keeper so you spend days cleaning before your
guests arrive. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that being clean and
tidy is a bad thing, it's good to take care of your things. But what
I am saying is that when it takes you away from your destiny that lies in
front of you, when it keeps you from working towards your dreams, then maybe,
just maybe you are spending too much time in fear of what other people will
think. It's a fear of what other people will think of you.
Then there is the fear of rejection. This fear will entice us to do
things that we normally would not do. To do things that are wrong, to do
things that you would live to regret years down the road, to even do things
that are illegal. Having your focus on a dream and allowing peer
pressure (the fear of rejection) steer you away from your destiny, your
dreams, it's inevitable that you will lose your focus. Falling prey to this type of
fear will keep you from your dreams, it will even keep you from dreaming. You
must settle it within yourself to do what is right, do it right, and do it because it's right.
Imagine the young person who dreams of inventing something, like some sort of
portable device, a way to communicate to others across the country, across
the world. While sharing their dream with other kids in school they get
taunted, laughed at, rejected. Soon they let their dream die within them. If that had
truly happened then most of us today would be living without the ever-so-popular cell phone. Not everyone
around you will support your dreams, your desires to reach
your destiny. That is alright. You must know in your heart what
your destiny is, what your dreams are, and follow that voice deep inside of you
towards the path to
your destiny.
The fear of a bad image will also keep you from focusing on your destiny.
Think of the person who is at a social gathering and is enticed to do
drugs because they don't want to look like a loser in front of their
friends. That one time experience could possibly be so additive it could
take them off the path to their destiny for years, maybe even forever.
Again, not everyone will be supportive of your dreams. You must decide to
choose your friends cautiously and have the courage to stay focused to see
your dreams become a reality. Think of the young girl who's dream
it is to be Miss America, however, being concerned about a bad image and peer
pressure she makes a bad decision that one day costs her her dream.
Or the young boy who's concerned about the bad image, chooses not to study
because his "so called friends" think it's not cool, so he ends up
getting bad grades keeping him from learning things that could attribute
to his future success. Maybe at that point in his life he didn't realize that
his destiny was to be an educator, having the ability to change hundreds
if not thousands of student's lives. What would have
happened if Abraham Lincoln fell prey to the fear of bad image. Life would
be totally
different today. Thank God he didn't and you need not either. Be strong
and stay focused on what your dreams are, not on what other people say
or think. Obtain and exercise that bull dog tenacity to reach your dreams.
So there you have it in a nut shell. The fear of what other people
think, the fear of
rejection, and the fear of a bad image. Years ago a supervisor
told his employee that he had no vision, no artistic ability, and should
just hang it up. I'm personally glad Walt Disney didn't listen to that man
all those years ago! Reach for your dreams, stay steadfast and focused
not wandering off your path. Another important point - don't forget the big
picture, have some fun and give thanks along your journey to
living your dreams.
Keep Reaching, Keep Dreaming!
